CLASS ACTIVITIES

Educating children about cancer and cancer treatments through class activities can help everyone adjust successfully to the child's return to school. An in-class presentation, such as Crusaders Against Cancer, can help answer many questions up front and give classmates an understanding of what the child is experiencing. This can be important in making the child's return to school easier and successful.

The Crusaders Against Cancer Facilitator's Guide provides several activities that teachers and other facilitators can do with the class to ease the adjustment during this time. The types of activities included in the guide are described below:

  • Stay-in-Touch Activities can be done with the child's classmates while the child with cancer is out of school for treatments.

  • Pre-Viewing Activities are designed to prepare the class to view the Crusaders Against Cancer video before the child with cancer returns to school.

  • Post-Viewing Activities can be done after the class has seen the video to emphasize the main points.

  • Extensions are optional activities that focus on specific topics, such as teasing or anxiety about whether cancer is contagious.
